"UN Resolution 377A: A Potential Solution to the Israel-Gaza Conflict?"

Egypt and Mauritania have invoked UN Resolution 377A (V) to call for an emergency meeting of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in an effort to stop the Israel-Gaza war after the US vetoed a proposed UN Security Council resolution for an immediate ceasefire. Resolution 377A empowers the UNGA to convene a meeting and make recommendations for collective measures, including the use of armed force if necessary. However, the UNGA recommendations are legally nonbinding, and Israel has ignored previous binding UN resolutions due to diplomatic backing from the US. The resolution has been used in the past to help resolve conflicts, but its implementation is rare.
