Russia Implements Bans Ahead of WWII Commemorations

Russia has implemented a major security clampdown ahead of the annual commemorations marking the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, curbing the use of drones, jet skis, and car-sharing services in its largest cities amid its 14-month war with Ukraine. At least 21 Russian cities canceled May 9 military parades for the first time in years, and the use of drones has been banned in both Moscow and St. Petersburg ahead of Victory Day. Meanwhile, Ukraine air defenses shot down 35 Iranian-made drones over Kyiv in Russia’s latest nighttime assault, as attacks across Ukraine by the Kremlin’s forces killed four civilians.
