Safety concerns prevent large-scale evacuation of Americans from Sudan

The White House has stated that the situation in Sudan is not safe for a large-scale military evacuation of US citizens, as violence in the region continues to escalate. More than 400 people have been killed and over 3,500 wounded since fighting began earlier this month in the capital city of Khartoum. The US embassy in Khartoum has temporarily suspended its operations and has safely evacuated all US personnel and their dependents. The State Department will continue to assist Americans in Sudan in planning for their own safety, and those who have not left the country are advised to stay sheltered in place and off the streets of Khartoum.
