Devastating earthquake claims lives in Ecuador and Peru.

Ecuadorian and Peruvian authorities are assessing the damage caused by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the Ecuadorian coastal province of Guayas, leaving at least 15 dead and hundreds injured. The government reported that 84 homes were destroyed and another 180 affected, while dozens of health centers and educational units also registered impacts. The Risk Management Secretariat sent a team to Puna Island to assess needs and deliver humanitarian aid. State-run oil company Petroecuador reported that an offshore platform near the epicenter suffered damage that caused machinery to fail, temporarily reducing production.
