Haiti Ravaged by Deadly Natural Disasters

Heavy rains in Haiti over the weekend have caused flooding, leaving at least 42 people dead, 85 injured, and 19,000 homeless. More than 13,600 homes were flooded, and crops were damaged, exacerbating the country's existing food insecurity. The World Food Program has called for increased support for Haiti's Humanitarian Response Plan, which is only 20% funded. The floods come as Haiti faces rampant gang violence, which has impeded rescue efforts. The start of the Atlantic hurricane season raises concerns about the country's ability to respond to future extreme weather incidents. Prime Minister Ariel Henry has requested international aid.
