Devastating floods and landslides strike Fukuoka, Japan: Dramatic footage

Heavy rains triggered landslides and flooding in southwestern Japan, resulting in at least three deaths and several people missing. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a level 5 alert, the highest level of warning, for areas at risk of landslides. Tens of thousands of residents were ordered to evacuate their homes, and authorities released water from dams as an emergency measure. Saga and Fukuoka prefectures have requested assistance from the Ground Self-Defense Force to rescue those still missing. This region of Japan is prone to heavy rain during the annual rainy season, and in 2018, a similar event resulted in 58 fatalities.
