Dramatic Iceland Volcano Eruption Forces Evacuation

A volcano near the town of Grindavík in Iceland erupted after weeks of earthquakes, leading to the evacuation of the town and closure of the Blue Lagoon tourist destination. The eruption, located close to Sundhnúkagígar, resulted in lava shooting high into the air. Flights in and out of Iceland have not been affected. The intensity of the eruption has been decreasing, but it does not necessarily mean the eruption is ending. Grindavík residents were allowed to briefly return to gather belongings before being evacuated again due to increased sulfur dioxide levels. The Blue Lagoon will remain closed until at least December 27.
