Japan Devastated by Deadly Floods and Landslides, Thousands Forced to Evacuate

Torrential rain in southwestern Japan has caused floods and mudslides, resulting in one death and six people missing. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued an emergency warning for Fukuoka and Oita prefectures, urging residents to evacuate. Over 420,000 people were under the highest evacuation level, and more than 1.7 million residents were advised to take shelter. The heavy rain has caused travel disruptions, power outages, and water supply cuts. Japan is in its annual rainy season, and scientists attribute the intensification of heavy rain to climate change.
