Record-breaking rainfall inundates Hong Kong, causing widespread flooding

Hong Kong experienced its heaviest rainfall in at least 140 years, causing widespread flooding across the city, including streets, shopping malls, and metro stations. Authorities closed schools and advised workers to stay home as videos circulated on social media showing torrents of water and metro workers wading through waist-deep water. The city's cross-harbour tunnel and a shopping center were also affected. The Hong Kong Observatory issued the highest "black" rainstorm warning, with over 200 mm of rainfall recorded. The extreme conditions are expected to last until at least noon on Friday.
