Archbishop of Canterbury clashes with UK government over morality of small boats bill.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has criticised the UK government's proposed migration bill, which would limit the ability of migrants to seek asylum in the UK. The legislation would bar asylum claims by anyone who reaches the UK by unauthorized means and compel officials to detain and then deport refugees and migrants "to their home country or a safe third country," such as Rwanda. Welby called the policy "isolationist, morally unacceptable and politically impractical" and warned that it risked causing great damage to the UK's reputation.
