The Biden administration has extended protection from deportation to over 330,000 immigrants from El Salvador, Honduras, Nepal, and Nicaragua who were shielded by Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for an additional 18 months. However, Senator Bob Menendez criticized the move, saying it "simply does not go far enough." TPS allows the Department of Homeland Security to protect nationals of designated countries living in the U.S. from potential deportation if they are eligible, allows them to apply for work permits and gives them the freedom to travel. The Biden administration has called for a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants, including TPS recipients.
