Global military spending hits record high, US spends 10x more on military than education.

The United States spent $877 billion on its military in 2022, accounting for almost 40% of total global military spending, according to a new report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. By comparison, the US federal government allocated just $76.4 billion for education in 2022. Total global military spending reached an all-time high of $2.24 trillion in 2022, a 3.7% increase from 2021, with European countries seeing the largest increases in spending. The rise in global military expenditure is a sign of an increasingly insecure world, according to the report.
