NATO Troops Deployed to Quell Clashes in Northern Kosovo

Nato peacekeeping troops and police have clashed with Serb demonstrators in north Kosovo, as unrest over the installation of ethnic Albanian mayors continues. Tear gas and stun grenades were used to deter protesters in the town of Zvecan, after they tried to break into a local government building. The crisis dates back to April when Kosovo Serbs boycotted local elections, allowing ethnic Albanians to control local councils with a turnout of less than four per cent.
