Protesters Demand Accountability as Rallies Escalate

Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Israel for the 27th consecutive weekend to demonstrate against the government's plans to curb the powers of the justice system. Crowd assessment company Crowd Solutions estimated that around 140,000 people were demonstrating in Tel Aviv, while organizers claimed the number was closer to 180,000. Protest leaders have vowed to intensify their opposition and warned the government that they will use every non-violent means available to stop the proposed legislation. The bill, which would remove courts' ability to rule on the "reasonableness" of governmental decisions, is set for preliminary approval this week.
