Serbia Implements Measures to Address School Shootings and Public Outrage

Thousands of protesters marched in Belgrade against the Serbian government's response to two mass shootings last week. President Aleksandar Vučić has demanded a 90% reduction of firearms in circulation and police officers are being deployed to all 1,800 schools in the country. The shootings have triggered calls to encourage tolerance and rid society of widespread hate speech and a gun culture stemming from the 1990s wars. Serbia has the highest level of gun ownership in Europe, with roughly 39 out of 100 people owning firearms.
