Serbia Implements Travel Ban on Anti-Putin Activist

Serbian police have banned Petr Nikitin, a prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, from entering the country. Nikitin, who opposes Russia's invasion of Ukraine, has lived in Serbia since 2016. The decision to deny his entry was made following a request from Serbia's Security and Information Agency (BIA). Nikitin's lawyer argues that this is unlawful as he is a resident with children in Serbia. The ban comes after the US Treasury sanctioned the director of the BIA, a trusted ally of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Serbia, despite condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine, has not joined international sanctions against Moscow due to its dependence on Russian gas imports.
