South Africa's wavering stance on leaving the ICC over Putin's arrest warrant

South Africa's presidential office clarified that the country remains a signatory to the International Criminal Court (ICC) after President Cyril Ramaphosa erroneously stated that the country should leave the ICC following an arrest warrant issued against Russian President Vladimir Putin. South Africa's disquiet follows the ICC's decision to issue an international arrest warrant against Putin over the forced deportation of children from Ukraine to Russia. South Africa, which will host the next BRICS summit in August, would be theoretically bound to enforce the warrant and arrest Putin if he visits the country.
