The Growing Importance of Taiwan in U.S.-China Relations.

More than half of Americans, including nearly six in 10 of those who voted either Republican or Democratic in the last presidential election, said they would approve or strongly approve of U.S. intervention in a crisis across the Taiwan Strait, according to a recent survey commissioned by Newsweek. The poll revealed a plurality who viewed China as "the greatest threat" to American interests, followed by Russia, North Korea, and Iran. The U.S. has sold $21 billion of defensive articles and services to Taiwan since 2019, according to the State Department.
