Trump's Involvement in I.R.S. Inquiry of F.B.I. Officials Revealed Under Oath

Former White House chief of staff John F. Kelly stated in a sworn statement that Donald Trump had discussed having the IRS and other federal agencies investigate two FBI officials involved in the investigation into his campaign's ties to Russia. Kelly's recollection was based on notes he took in 2018, and he provided copies of his notes to lawyers for one of the FBI officials. These disclosures demonstrate Trump's interest in using the law enforcement and investigative powers of the federal government to target his perceived enemies. It is not known whether the IRS investigated the FBI officials, but they became subjects in the investigation conducted by special counsel John Durham.
