US and China engage in high-level talks to ease tensions.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan met with top Chinese official Wang Yi in Vienna for "candid" and "constructive" talks, marking one of the highest-level engagements between US and Chinese officials since the spy balloon incident earlier this year. The two sides discussed key issues in the US-China bilateral relationship, global and regional security issues, Russia's war against Ukraine, and cross-Strait issues, among other topics. They agreed to maintain open lines of communication and responsibly manage competition, building on the engagement between President Biden and President Xi in Bali, Indonesia, in November 2022.
