TL;DR
Queen Margrethe's abdication announcement came as a surprise to her sons, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, who found out just days before her public declaration. The abdication will be formalized at a Council of State meeting, and there will be no grand coronation ceremony as in the UK.
