Indonesian Transgender Muslims Strive for Security

The future of Indonesia's only Islamic community centre for transgender women is in doubt after its leader, Shinta Ratri, died in February, and the government says it cannot support it. The Al-Fatah community centre provides a space for trans women to pray, learn the Quran, learn skills or simply socialise without being judged for who they are. The building is owned by the late leader's family, who have asked Al Fatah to move out. The state has not been actively hostile and has allowed its existence, but it does not provide any direct support.
