Surge in Antisemitic Incidents Amid Israel-Hamas Conflict: UK Takes Action
The Metropolitan Police in London has reported a "massive increase" in antisemitic incidents since the recent Hamas attacks on Israel. Between September 30 and October 13, there were 105 antisemitic incidents and 75 offenses, compared to 14 incidents and 12 offenses during the same period last year. The Prime Minister has condemned the rise and allocated additional funding to protect Jewish institutions. The police have implemented a significant policing operation and are urging anyone affected by hate crimes to contact them. There has also been an increase in Islamophobic incidents, but not on the same scale as antisemitism. Pro-Palestinian protests are expected in London, and the police have warned that displays of support for Hamas will be met with arrests.
