Tragic Hamas Attack Leaves Israeli-American Son Orphaned

A 16-year-old Israeli-American teenager, Rotem Mathias, witnessed both of his parents being killed by Hamas militants during an attack on their kibbutz. Mathias's mother tried to shield him from the bullets before she died. He hid under a bloodied cloth for hours until he was rescued by Israeli forces. The war between Israel and Hamas, which has claimed thousands of lives, is expected to escalate as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu forms a war-time Cabinet to retaliate against the attack.
