"ISIS Leader Confirmed Dead, Successor Announced"

Islamic State has confirmed the death of its leader, Abu Hussein al-Husseini al-Quraishi, and named Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Quraishi as his replacement. The announcement comes after Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan revealed in April that Turkish intelligence forces had killed Quraishi in Syria. Quraishi was reportedly killed during a gun battle with Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), a rival Islamist group in northwest Syria. Islamic State, which once controlled a significant portion of Iraq and Syria, provided no details about the new leader. The group continues to carry out insurgent attacks in both countries, with its remaining militants hiding in remote areas. The U.S.-led coalition and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are still conducting raids against Islamic State in Syria.
