Bereaved families in Kenya wept as the first bodies of over 400 victims of a doomsday cult leader, who induced them to starve themselves, were released from a hospital mortuary. The cult leader, Paul Mackenzie, and 29 others are facing murder charges after convincing their followers that the end of the world was near and they should kill themselves to ascend to heaven. Only 35 bodies have been conclusively identified so far, adding to the anguish of the families. The slow process of exhumation, post-mortem, and identification procedures has left families waiting for closure, with calls for the government to accelerate the process.
