Kenyan Minister Issues Apology as Airport Terminal Plunges into Darkness

Kenya's transport minister apologized after a widespread electricity blackout left passengers at Nairobi's main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), in darkness. The blackout was caused by a generator failure, which affected the main terminal but not the runway or control tower. The airport operator, Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), terminated the contract of its managing director and appointed an acting head. The minister assured that no passengers or planes were in danger and pledged to swiftly put two generators into service to prevent future incidents. Kenya Power restored supply to the airport five hours after the blackout began.
