Panama Repeats as Best Country for Expats in 2026, Spain Tops Europe

InterNations' Expat Insider 2026 ranks Panama first for expats for the third year running, praised for ease of settling in and expat essentials, with about 8,000 expatriates across 162 nationalities contributing their views. Mexico is second and Thailand third; Europe’s top destination is Spain (sixth overall), followed by Portugal and Luxembourg in the top 10. The survey evaluated 31 countries across five indices (working abroad, personal finances, quality of life, expat essentials, ease of settling in), while the UK, Türkiye, Germany and Norway sit near the bottom.
