Unexpected Encounter: Drone Captures Curious Humpback Whale Following Kayaker

A drone searching for a reported whale carcass off the coast of Sapphire Beach, Australia, instead discovered a mother humpback whale and her newborn calf. The birth was a rare occurrence, and park rangers were pleasantly surprised to witness it. The calf, estimated to be about 13 feet long, is expected to grow rapidly and will require up to 53 gallons of milk each day. The duo is believed to be gaining strength before rejoining the migration north to the Great Barrier Reef.
