"Denmark's Royal Transition: From Queen Margrethe's Abdication to Crown Prince Frederik's Rise"
TL;DR
Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, the longest-serving current monarch, has announced her abdication after 52 years on the throne. Her son, Crown Prince Frederik, is set to succeed her on January 14, 2024. Born into the Danish royal family in 1940, Margrethe ascended to the throne in 1972 following her father's death. The Danish royal family, while not as globally prominent as the British monarchy, has experienced its own dramas and scandals.
