Colorado police have solved the 48-year-old cold case murder of 20-year-old Teree Becker, who was raped and asphyxiated in 1975. The case was cracked using genetic genealogy, leading to the identification of Thomas Martin Elliott, who had died by suicide in 1991. Elliott was linked to another murder in Las Vegas, and his DNA profile matched evidence from both cases. The Westminster Police Department hopes to bring closure to Becker's family and friends and continues to investigate nine remaining cold cases in the area.
