
Muslim Connecticut State Representative Allegedly Assaulted Outside Eid Gathering
Connecticut State Representative Maryam Khan was allegedly assaulted outside of an Islamic prayer ceremony in Hartford. The incident occurred at an Eid al-Adha gathering, and a man named Andrey Desmond approached Khan, made unwanted advances, and assaulted her. Desmond was detained by bystanders and later arrested. Khan suffered minor injuries and was evaluated at the scene. The Connecticut Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned the attack, stating that Khan and her family were targeted because they wore hijabs. Desmond faces charges including assault and unlawful restraint.
