Land Art Installations in Peril: Threats and Demolition Plans
The Des Moines Art Center plans to dismantle Mary Miss's renowned environmental installation, "Greenwood Pond: Double Site," due to lack of funds for its $2.7 million repair, sparking outrage among landscape architecture advocates and the artist herself. The project, created between 1989 and 1996, is considered one of the few environmental installations in any American museum's collection and the first urban wetland project in the country.
