Canada Launches Inquiry into India's Role in Election Interference
Canada's Foreign Interference Commission, initially set up to investigate China's involvement in influencing Canadian elections, is now seeking to probe alleged Indian interference as well. This comes amid strained India-Canada ties due to allegations of Indian involvement in the killing of a Sikh separatist in Canada. The Commission is also looking into alleged interference by Russia and Iran, with public hearings expected soon. The inquiry aims to assess the impact of foreign interference on the 2019 and 2021 federal elections and evaluate the Canadian government's capacity to detect, deter, and counter such interference.
