The Biden administration is relaunching the COVIDtests.gov website and will be sending up to four free COVID-19 rapid tests per household to anyone who requests them starting Monday. The Department of Health and Human Services has invested $600 million in manufacturing COVID tests, aiming to bolster the U.S. supply chain and reduce reliance on overseas manufacturers. The free test offer was previously available during the Omicron wave in January 2022, with a total of 755 million tests distributed. The government advises checking the expiration dates of unused tests as many have been extended. Free tests are also provided to long-term care facilities, low-income senior housing, uninsured individuals, and underserved communities.
