Former Minneapolis police officer pleads guilty to assault in Jaleel Stallings case.
Former Minneapolis police officer Justin Stetson pleaded guilty to a felony assault charge and a gross misdemeanor charge of misconduct of a public officer or employee for repeatedly kicking and hitting Jaleel Stallings, a Black man, who fired at police officers in self-defense during protests over George Floyd's death. Stallings had accused the officers of assaulting him after he surrendered. Prosecutors won't seek prison time for Stetson, but instead want him to undergo two years of supervised probation. Stallings criticized the plea deal, saying it doesn't go far enough to hold Stetson accountable and prevent similar behavior.
