Widow and son of former Cook County commissioner found shot dead in Chicago home in apparent murder-suicide
Barbara Deer and her son Kaleb Deer were found shot dead in their Chicago home; police say it appears to be a murder-suicide and the medical examiner confirmed the deaths. Kaleb, 23, had a gunshot wound to the head and Barbara, 51, was shot three times. The Deers are the family of the late Cook County Commissioner Dennis Deer, who died in 2024.
