Oath Keepers leader and founder sentenced to 18 years for Jan. 6 attack plot.
Kelly Meggs, the leader of the Florida chapter of the Oath Keepers, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for seditious conspiracy in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Meggs and his attorney pleaded for leniency, saying he was not on the Capitol grounds to cause violence, but the judge found his actions and words were those of someone who was part of a mere "security detail." Meggs' sentence is the third longest so far among those prosecuted for the Jan. 6 attack.
