Apple TV+ Greenlights Ascension, Alfonso Cuarón’s Cult-Horror Series Starring Balfe
Apple TV+ has ordered the horror-thriller Ascension from Alfonso Cuarón, with Caitríona Balfe set to star and executive‑produce. Inspired by Adam Nevill’s Last Days, the series follows Rose, a relentless documentary filmmaker who delves into a mysterious 20th‑century cult called the Church of Ascension and uncovers something far more insidious. Cuarón is joined by Carlos Cuarón, Natalie Erika James, and Christian White as writers, with James directing and serving as co‑showrunner. Esperanto Filmoj and Anonymous Content will produce the series for Apple Studios; Balfe will also executive‑produce alongside the project.
