Disney's Legal Maneuvers Thwart DeSantis' Oversight Board Takeover
Disney invoked a royal clause dating back to 1692 in Great Britain to transfer most of its power from the Reedy Creek Improvement District to itself for the next 30 years, thereby thwarting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' efforts to strip the company of its self-governance power in the state. The agreement went into effect before DeSantis replaced the Disney-allied board members with Republicans. The clause will remain in effect until 21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, King of England, living as of the date of the declaration.
