"Federal Judges Overturn GOP-Backed Voting Laws in Georgia and Texas, Allowing Food and Water Distribution to Voters in Polling Lines"

A federal judge in Georgia has partially struck down a section of the state's election law that banned the distribution of food and water to voters waiting in line, as well as halted the requirement for voters to include their birth dates on the outer envelope of their ballots. The judge allowed the ban to be enforced within a 150-foot "buffer zone" around polling places but paused enforcement within a 25-foot "supplemental zone" near voters in line. However, the judge declined to block other aspects of the law, including restrictions on who can deliver absentee ballots and where ballot drop boxes can be placed. The ruling was seen as a victory by voting rights groups, who argued that the law disproportionately targeted people of color.
