British Museum Bans Photography to Keep Bayeux Tapestry Viewing Flow
The British Museum has reversed its initial permission for visitors to photograph the Bayeux Tapestry, banning photography to prevent delays and queues from blocking access to the 68‑meter embroidery. Visitors enter in 40-minute groups, and stopping to snap pictures was slowing the flow. The 11th‑century piece is on loan from Normandy and will be on display in London until July 2027 in a straight-line gallery; the loan followed a Franco‑British summit, with the UK government covering insurance and the museum funding the move. Tickets are sold out for now, and replicas can be seen elsewhere.
