FAA Approves UPS Delivery Drones for Longer Flights, Expanding Airspace Access
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted UPS delivery drones permission to fly longer distance flights beyond the sight of ground operators, allowing for expanded drone delivery services. This move opens the door for other companies like Wing, FedEx, and Zip to deliver packages across a wider area. UPS Flight Forward, a UPS subsidiary focused on drone delivery, can now deliver small packages beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS) without spotters on the ground. The FAA has also authorized two other companies, uAvionix Corp. and Phoenix Air Unmanned, to fly beyond sight for commercial purposes.
