MADACC Enters Quarantine as FPV Cat Virus Strikes Shelter
MADACC is operating at over capacity as its cat kennels are quarantined due to feline panleukopenia (FPV), a highly contagious virus with no cure that can persist in the environment for a year or longer. The shelter is boosting cleaning and biosecurity, urges vaccination and indoor living for cats, and asks the public not to bring healthy stray cats to the facility—instead using microchips and local networks to locate owners. Sick or endangered animals still get help, and currently adoptable cats are kept in a separate room and have not shown FPV symptoms.
