The Importance of Educating and Celebrating Juneteenth.
The mainstreaming of Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the US, has led to cultural appropriation, controversy, and pandering. The author argues that corporations and governments should focus on policies and actions that combat racial disparities instead of using the holiday for performative gestures. The author suggests that less is more when it comes to observing Juneteenth, and that it should be left alone to be celebrated by Black people in peace.
