Electric Truck Production Delays Hit GM and Ford as EV Demand Slows

General Motors (GM) has announced a delay in the production of all-electric trucks at its Michigan plant until late 2025, citing the need to manage capital investments and implement improvements to increase profitability. The delay raises questions about GM's previously announced EV goals, including the production of 400,000 EVs in North America from 2022 to mid-2024. The company plans to assemble new electric versions of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra at its Factory Zero in Detroit instead. The slower adoption of EVs and ongoing contract negotiations with the United Auto Workers union may contribute to the delay.
