"Call of Duty's RICOCHET Anti-Cheat Update Introduces Hallucinations to Thwart Cheaters"

The developers of Call of Duty are introducing a new method called "Hallucinations" to combat cheaters. Decoy characters, visible only to suspected cheaters, are deployed in the game environment to disorient them. These characters mimic real human players and trigger the same information cheaters would have access to, making them appear legitimate. Hallucinations can also be used to detect cheaters by observing their interactions. Activision has seen success in reducing cheating through other measures, such as detecting third-party cheating hardware and expanding in-game reporting systems. They are removing the Quicksand feature, which slowed or froze cheaters' movement, due to visual issues.
