The suspected administrator of dark web marketplace Monopoly Market, Milomir Desnica, has been extradited from Austria to the US. Desnica is accused of facilitating $18 million in illegal drug transactions using cryptocurrencies. Last month, nearly 300 people were arrested and over $53 million was seized in a bust of the site, which was the largest operation of its kind.
Europol-led operation SpecTor has resulted in the shutdown of dark web marketplace Monopoly Market and the arrest of 288 suspects across nine countries for drug trafficking. Over €50.8m ($55.7m) in cash and virtual currencies, 850kg of drugs, and 117 firearms were seized, including amphetamines, cocaine, MDMA, LSD, and ecstasy pills. The coordinated stings took place in Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Brazil, the UK, the US, and Switzerland.
