Major water main break prompts boil-water advisory for Cary and Morrisville
A 30-inch water main break in Cary and Morrisville has triggered a Central Pressure Zone boil-water advisory, with NC-55 closed while crews repair the line. Residents should boil tap water for one minute or use bottled water for drinking and cooking, and conserve water as tests are conducted; no harmful bacteria has been detected yet. Water samples were collected at 5 a.m., with results expected around midnight, and the advisory remains in effect until at least 3 a.m. Tuesday. The affected area extends within the Central Pressure Zone (NC 55 east to I-40, Durham County line south to I-540); Western and Southern zones are normal, and Apex and RDU Airport are not affected. Vulnerable populations are urged to avoid tap water for bathing or wound care, and spraygrounds and water fountains are closed.
