Advancements in Inhaled COVID Vaccines: Monkey Trials Show Promise
Inhaled COVID-19 vaccines delivered directly to the lungs and nose have shown promising results in monkey trials, stopping SARS-CoV-2 infections in their tracks. These findings provide a boost to the development of mucosal COVID-19 vaccines, which aim to trigger immune responses in the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract. The studies suggest that vaccines delivered more deeply into the respiratory system outperform nasal sprays, and there is a need to optimize the vaccines themselves. While mucosal vaccines for COVID-19 are still in development, their success could have broader implications for combating other respiratory viruses in the future.
